About HO'OMAU RANCH

ABOUT US

Conservation Guided by Nature.

At HOʻOMAU RANCH, conservation is an active program continuing through the upland forests of South Kona, Hawai‘i Island. Our land is a sanctuary for many native Hawaiian species — including one of the rarest tree species in the world: the Loulu Pritchardia schattaueri palm including a vibrant and healthy understory — a place where education, ecology, and community thrive. Through guided forest tours, we invite you to explore these ecosystems, deepen your understanding of Hawaiian biodiversity and take part in preserving this land and its inhabitants for generations to come.
Home to thriving honey bees, our forest hums with life and natural balance.

Conservation Efforts

Preserving Nature

HO‘OMAU RANCH is deeply committed to conservation through active forest management and ecological restoration. Their efforts focus on controlling invasive species, regenerating native plants, and protecting rare forest habitats. Special attention is given to restoring native tree species like koa and preserving biodiversity. Working in partnership with state and federal agencies, the ranch implements protective fencing, supports ecological research, and maintains long-term monitoring. These projects blend scientific best practices with traditional Hawaiian values, uniting cultural stewardship with environmental education and care.
